Senior Citizens Must Enroll in Income Verification Program for Property Tax Break

Property owners who are 65 years and older and are eligible for the 2019 Enhanced STAR exemption must enroll in the Income Verification Program.

In the past, seniors who qualified for the exemption were automatically granted the Enhanced STAR exemption.

However, beginning in 2019 you must apply separately for both exemptions.

Be aware of scammers who are attempting to charge home owners a fee for processing the application.

As a result of last year’s investigation, NYS Attorney General Letitia James recently reached a settlement with one of the culprits.

Spread the word to family and friends who are senior property owners. Deadline is March 1, 2019 to sign up.

Developers are looking to demolish the three story Townhouse and Stable located on St. Marks Avenue to make room for a five story apartment building.

The building sits just outside the Crown Heights North Historic District.

Brooklyn experienced the loss of many historical and architectural buildings of late, many of which locals fought to have landmark.
